Moissanite

Moissanite

Moissanite holds up to daily wear and throws more fire than a diamond, which is why it suits big centre stones. These are our loose moissanite stones, cut in old mine, old European and brilliant styles across elongated cushions, ovals, pears, rounds and marquise. Colourless and off white through to champagne, grey, blue green and black.

    Buying a Moissanite Stone

Buying the stone first is the older way round and usually the better one. You see exactly what you are getting before a setting is built around it, and the ring is designed to the stone rather than the stone squeezed into a ring. With antique cuts, where no two stones are quite the same shape, that is not a small difference.

One thing worth knowing before you compare prices anywhere, including here. Moissanite is less dense than diamond, so a stone sold as two carats is usually two carats of diamond equivalent face up size, not two carats of actual weight. That is standard practice across the industry and it is not dishonest, but it means carat figures are not comparable between a moissanite and a diamond. Shop on millimetres. Every stone here lists its measurements, and millimetres are what decides how it looks on a finger.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is moissanite hard enough for an engagement ring?

Yes. 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond, and it stands up to daily wear. Like any stone it can chip under a hard enough knock, which is an argument for a bezel if you are hard on your hands.

Why do carat figures not match up with diamonds?

Because moissanite is lighter than diamond for the same size. A stone described as two carats is almost always two carats of diamond equivalent face up size. Compare millimetres, not carats, and the confusion disappears.

Will it cloud or lose its sparkle over time?

No. It does not cloud, dull or change colour. What it does do, like every stone, is collect skin oil and soap film, which makes it look flat. Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush brings it straight back.

Does it come with a certificate?

On request. Tell us if you want one and we will arrange it. Our lab grown diamonds are certified by GIA or IGI.

Can you set a stone I buy here into one of your rings?

Yes, that is what most people do. Pick the stone, tell us the design, and we will quote the setting separately. Cutting takes about a week if the stone is not already cut, and the ring is two to three weeks on top.
