ORBION was founded in Surat, India, a city internationally known as the Diamond Polishing Capital of the World, where diamonds are not just traded, but understood, shaped, and brought to life.
Surat is a place where craftsmanship runs deep, and where the science of light meets the art of beauty. It is here that ORBION’s journey began.
A Story of Design, Detail, and Discovery
ORBION was born in 2019, from a simple but powerful passion: to create something meaningful, something that would be worn, cherished, and admired for a lifetime.
The founder, Kunal, was always fascinated by design, not just how things look, but how they feel, how small details come together, and how craftsmanship can transform an object into emotion.
He was searching for something rare: a field that was immersive, meticulous, and endlessly inspiring. Something he could lose himself in every single day.
That moment of clarity arrived unexpectedly, through an old mentor and a senior friend, someone who had first introduced him to the world of diamonds during a high school vacation, teaching him how to see, sort, and truly understand them.
Learning the Craft From the Ground Up
At the time, there was no traditional background in fine jewelry, only curiosity, passion, and a deep respect for the craft. So the journey began from scratch.
Kunal spent months learning hands-on at a friend’s jewelry workshop, absorbing everything from setting techniques to design fundamentals, understanding not just jewelry as a product, but jewelry as an art form.
Soon after, ORBION was launched.
The Beauty of Old Cuts
As the brand evolved, ORBION found its true calling: the timeless romance of Old Cut Diamonds. The elegance of Old Mine Cuts and Old European Cuts felt different, soulful, character-rich, historical, and deeply artistic.
But ORBION wanted to take this further, not simply recreate old cuts, but refine them with modern understanding of light performance.
That exploration led to moissanite, lab-grown diamonds, and eventually to what became ORBION’s signature: Performance-Optimized Custom Cuts.
