What makes a good signet ring
A signet is a flat faced ring and the face is the whole design. Ours set the stone east west, lying across the finger rather than along it, which makes an elongated stone read wider and keeps the profile low. A tapered shank, wider at the top and narrowing underneath, carries that weight without the ring feeling heavy on the hand.
Low and flush is the point. A bezel wraps metal around the stone so nothing stands proud to catch, which is why these survive daily wear in a way a raised solitaire does not. Traditionally a signet is worn on the little finger, though most of our customers wear theirs on the ring or index finger instead. Sizing matters more on a wide flat ring than a narrow one, so measure at the end of the day when your hands are at their largest.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which finger is a signet worn on?
Traditionally the little finger, on the hand you do not write with. Most of our customers wear theirs on the index or ring finger instead. There is no rule you have to follow.
Can it be engraved?
Yes, engraving is complimentary. On a stone set signet we engrave the inside of the band rather than the face.
Will the stone catch on things?
Not on these. The stones are bezel or half bezel set, so the metal sits level with or above the stone edge. That is the reason to choose a signet over a raised setting if you work with your hands.
Can I change the stone or the metal?
Yes. Stone shape and size, and metal colour and karat, on every design. Send us the ring you like and what you want changed and we will come back with a price and a drawing before anything is made.
How do I get the size right?
A wide flat ring runs tighter than a narrow one, so size up if you are between. Measure at the end of the day, when your hands are at their largest.
How long will it take?
Two to three weeks to make, then 17 to 19 days on free standard shipping or 7 to 10 days on paid express.
